What is the best smartphone aka pda phone?
The pda phones with the best reviews I’ve seen so far are 1)Nokia E61 / N70 2)Sony Ericsson K750i / S700i / W800i 3)PalmOne Treo 600.
What do you think of those? Is there one better than them? I’m looking for a nice mix of pda functionality and multimedia options.
Ideal features are PC sync, speakerphone, international, bluetooth, and wi-fi.
I don’t care about what service it uses as long as it’s unlockable. Price is no object.
THANKS!!!
i love the motorola Q.. verizon

Which PDA should I get? The Verizon XV6800 or the Samsung SCH-i760?
I am eligible for an upgrade from Verizon and I am looking to purchase a PDA/Smartphone. I have read reviews on both, and have gotten alot of conflicting information. I am a law school student so I want to go with one of these two because the microsoft office programs are very easy to use on the go. I am basically looking for people who have one or the other, or know a significant amount about them to give me a little insight and some recommendations.
Thanks!
I recently bought the Samsung i760. I gotta say it’s a great phone. You may have heard about the "problem" with the SEND and END Call buttons on the sides, but I don’t see it as too much of a problem.
The one thing that I’ve noticed to is that the "hibernate" mode can be useful. People state that it gets annoying because the only way to get the screen back up is to hit the top power button again. But you can also get the screen back up if you slide out the QWERTY keyboard.
I keep the phone in my pocket, so a lot of buttons would be pushed if it wasn’t in hibernate mode. With the hibernate mode, I don’t even use the keypad lock…
I saw the XV6800… but I’ve noticed better overall reviews for the i760….
Have you seen the CNET Review that compares both?

Will mobile prices rise in the US after the AT&T – T-Mobile merger?
What will happen to mobile pricing in the United States if the AT&T – T-Mobile merger is approved?
If you Google the pending AT&T – T-Mobile merger, it’s about a 50-50 split as to whether this is a good move for consumers or not. Some people feel that this is a good move, businesswise, as the two companies together will create economies of scale that would not otherwise be present. Handset prices, for one, will likely fall – when I worked, long ago, for a small regional carrier, the average handset price, even for a cheap, very plain handset, was close to the $200-250 range. Even back in the PrimeCo days (pre-2000), cell phones were generally expensive even on contract, as the smaller companies had to buy phones in smaller quantities than is generally possible today. A large company such as Verizon or AT&T can command a steep discount on equipment from a manufacturer such as LG or Motorola, simply because of discounting on a huge bulk purchase, not to mention the huge pool of possible customers that manufacturer might lose out on if the carrier doesn’t like the terms offered for sale.
What about pricing for access after the AT&T – T-Mobile merger?
Today, the average cost for access per line – including voice, text, and other features – is around $50-55 per line. This has increased a good bit in the past year due to more and more people moving from ‘dumbphones’ or feature phones to web-enabled smartphones. When I started in the industry, average costs were generally higher in the sense that you might have had a $40 cell phone plan but only got, say, 300 minutes with it, an average cost of 14 cents per minute. Today, that same $40 plan would get you 450 minutes on either Verizon Wireless or AT&T, for a per minute cost of approximately 9 cents.
So will prices rise or drop if the AT&T – T-Mobile merger is approved?
It is difficult to gauge the effect that the pending AT&T – T-Mobile merger will have on the industry. Certainly it will not happen as it is currently envisioned. The FCC will undoubtedly require divestiture of many assets. The Justice Department will also take a close look at this pending AT&T – T-Mobile merger.

Verizon Wireless LTE Coming Soon!
LTE is coming!
At CTIA this year, Verizon announced that they will be bringing LTE (4G) to over 140 cities by the end of 2011.
Verizon Wireless expanding LTE to more markets.
You will not be able to take advantage of the LTE speeds without an LTE enabled aircard or smartphone – the HTC Thunderbolt just launched this week.
AT&T expected to roll LTE out in several markets this year.
Their purchase of T-Mobile, pending approval, will hasten the rollout of LTE to more markets than Verizon will have, and in a relatively shorter timeframe.

New Android PC Tablet From Motorola
Motorola has a new android pc tablet coming out February 2011 – the Xoom.
This new Android pc tablet will have a 10 inch screen and 32 GB of internal flash memory. It will come in a Wi-Fi only model, along with an EVDO version running off Verizon’s network. This Android tablet will be a direct competitior to the Apple iPad. This android pc tablet will support 1080p video playback as well as Flash, unlike the Apple iPad. It will be able to record in 720p hi-def video. It features a Tegra dual-core processor and runs on Android 3.0, also known as Honeycomb.
This Android PC tablet is expected to be a strong competitior to Apple’s iPad, with one possible shortcoming – it’s $800 price tag.
This price has been verified by Best Buy, with one additional caveat; the WiFi + EVDO version cannot operate on WiFi without purchasing at least one month of EVDO data from Verizon at an estimated cost of $30. This device is expected to force a price cut in another popular Android pc tablet – the Samsung Galaxy S Tab. Most outlets already cut the original price of the S Tab from $600-650 down to around $550.
This Android PC tablet is seen as a godsend by most Apple haters out there – they have wanted a tablet computer that doesn’t have the stink of Steve Jobs all over it.

Due verizon upgrade. How about the Motorola Q?
I’m due for the upgrade in a week. i want a PDA type phone for the key pad. I also like the windows mobile aspect too. I really love the Palm Treo 700wx, but its to pricey. so I’ll have to settle for something else. now the Q is nice but i guess it dosen’t allow editing of documents only viewing, and it only has 64MB of memory and only takes the mini SD cards. The only 4 things that make me consider this phone is: its thin, has the scroll feature, It’s price is right, and its a Motorola. if i had $400 just laying around it would be the Palm 700wx. Im not a business man or important. I’m just a guy that is interested in a pda with the some, or all of the above features in a phone. i’ve seen reviews, but could someone who has this phone or works with/uses this phone give me the pros and cons, so i can make a decision? also other phone suggestions are not out of the question, my contract ends June 08 which then I’ll probably go to cingular where they have better and more phones. thanks
I work in PDA tech support, so I have a pretty good idea of the flaws and features of different Verizon phones.
It sounds bad, but I wouldn’t advise ANYONE to buy a Moto Q…unless they’re willing to deal with a lot of freeze-ups and malfunctions. Yes, they’re cheaper than Treos, but there’s a reason for that. They’re not as high quality. I have replaced more Motorola Q’s than any other device, and it’s mostly due to one function flaw. They, like any computer-type device, freeze up sometimes…but unlike other PDA’s there is no reset button on the motorola q, all you can do to try to jump start it is take the battery out. The other PDA’s have a hard reset that you can do if the soft reset doesn’t work..the hard reset wipes out info, but if you’re syncing (which I recommend doing with ANY smartphone or PDA, considering how much of your info they have) you can get it right back, and your phone will be working within 3 minutes. The moto q doesn’t have a hard reset that is reachable if the phone isn’t working…you can only hard reset if it’s working properly, which is useless. So if your phone freezes up or doesn’t want to boot, you’re looking at at least 24 hours without the phone until you can get a new one, because after the 15-day worry free guarantee, you get replacements for PDA’s and smartphones through tech support, not at your local store. That’s why I wouldn’t recommend the Q.
However, I WOULD recommend the 700w or wx. They’re more reliable, you still have the Windows interface, they have more capabilities for document editing, and if something goes wrong, they are MUCH easier to fix, saving you time and frustration. The 700w is not available for sale online right now, but it is a little older than the wx and is probably in your local store…for a cheaper price. I can’t say for sure, I’m not in retail. The main (and only signficant) difference is it has less memory, but a mini SD card can remedy that.
My personal favorite windows-based device is the Audiovox 6700, aka a pocket pc. It’s $300 online (plus your new every two discount!), which is more expensive than the moto q, but soooo worth it. The keyboard slides out when you want to get online or type, displaying a full qwerty keyboard, and the screen switches from portrait to landscape. I’m honestly not sure if it has document-editing capabilites, and it’s not as thin as the q for sure, but it’s sooooooo much more reliable than either the q or the treo. In an average 25 calls a day, I get about 10 q calls (at least 2 of which are replacements), 5 treo 700x or wx calls (1 of which is a replacement), and 2 calls about this phone…and I’ve only done 4 or 5 replacements in a year of working in tech support.
I really hope I’ve helped. I’ll enclose a couple links to the vzw website, but I also recommend going into the stores and trying some PDA’s out to see which you like best, veen if you want to order online for the discounts. Remember, there’s ALWAYS the 15-day worry free guarantee, so if you get one you have a couple weeks to try it out and exchange it for something else for ANY reason. Also, you can call 1-800-922-0204 to talk to some other people in tech support who are experts on these phones…though they might not be as brutally honest, since we’re recorded and screened by Verizon on ALL calls. Good luck!

cell phone complaints
How to Deal With Your Cell Phone Complaints
Every person that has a cell phone has dealt with bill shock at one time or another. Usually, the first reaction is to go back to the store and start fussing. These are the reasons why that sort of cell phone complaints are a really bad idea, and how to prevent these cell phone complaints in the first place.
1. The blighters in the store are usually NOT customer service reps. Their paychecks are based largely on commission. They sell cell phones. Their job is to make sure you leave the store with a phone that works, some accessories, and as much of both as they can get you to buy. They aren’t your friends. They do not WANT to be your friend. They want to move on to the next paying customer as quickly as possible, making as much money as possible in the process, then go home at the end of the day and forget about it. That’s all. Listening to your cell phone complaints rank right up there with a visit from upper management. Now, occasionally you will encounter that rarest – and most valuable – of person who truly wants to help you, won’t rip you off and will go to the mat for you with higher management if there IS a problem in the future. If you should be so fortunate as to encounter this person, be nice to him (or her). They will generally be your biggest help in navigating the myriad of service options to solve your cell phone complaints. The biggest trick, however, is to not be abusive of this person’s time and goodwill. If you do this too much, that person will avoid you like the plague. Remember, you’re cutting into his paycheck with your demands. Be respectful of this.
2. In nearly all domestic U.S. call phone carrier organizations, the customer care reps are available either via online chat – a relatively new and very useful tool – or via a 1-800 number. Learn this number as soon as is practicable. Save it in your phone. Write it down on a business card and stick it in your wallet. Cell phone complaints are usually not handled in the store anyway, the rep will just stick you on the phone with customer service, wasting their time and yours. The only major carrier that has in-house reps is Verizon, and since October 2010, they have eliminated most of these positions as a cost-cutting move, except in some larger markets such as New Orleans, LA, New York, et cetera. Was this a smart move on their part? In a business sense, yes. They eliminated salary and overhead on these people, and moved the job responsibility to remote call centers. For customers though, this was an unfortunate happenstance. They eliminated most of the tenured store employees. These were usually the folks who could solve problems expediently.
3. Walk in with a bad attitude? The amount of help you can expect to receive just plummeted to be exactly what the policy guide the rep uses says that they HAVE to do, no more. Generally, the nicer you are to a rep, the more he or she will be willing to help you. I know this from experience. They don’t like being yelled at any more than you do (unless you’re a psychopath, and I have my theories there, but that’s another article for another time). BE NICE!!!!! You’ll probably get what you want, within reason. Generally, cell phone complaints are the last thing on the rep’s mind.
4. Don’t automatically ask for the manager. The manager has other stuff to do, and it is likely that the last thing he (or she) wants to do is hold your hand over something that another rep could easily handle.
5. Learn what your plan covers – in its entirety! This means do your homework before purchase AND after. The Intertubes are your friend in this regard. Use Google, or Bing, or Yahoo Search or whatever moves you. Ask questions of other people that use this carrier. What issues have they encountered? What did they do to correct them? Being educated is perhaps the best thing you can do for yourself. If you’re traveling outside the country, can you expect your phone to work? If it does, what roaming fees can you expect? Be especially cognizant of Internet usage overseas – it gets very expensive very quickly, and even fairly intelligent people can get caught with a huge bill; for example, one of the Mythbusters (a fairly intelligent fellow) was hit with a tens-of-thousands-of-dollars bill recently when he used his laptop on a cruise ship docked in an international roaming area. He thought he was still using the cruise ship’s internet, turned out he wasn’t.
6. If you have other people on your family plan – especially children or not-too-bright adults – make sure they understand what they can do and what they cannot. For example, if they don’t have a data plan on their phone, and they start using the Internet… costs can get dramatically high very quickly. If the carrier offers tools to monitor or limit certain types of usage, learn how to use them, then USE THEM! They will prevent a lot of heartache in the future. This is usually one of the leading causes of cell phone complaints.
7. Lastly, LOOK AT YOUR BILLS WHEN YOU GET THEM, not right before it is due. Generally, if a credit or other adjustment is needed, you’ll be asked to pay your bill in its entirety, and then you’ll get credit on the next bill. Obviously this is sometimes not a good thing, especially if you have to pay a $500 phone bill when you were expecting one much lower. Give the company time to fix whatever is wrong. Don’t demand results right then and there, it probably won’t happen. Cell phone complaints are best addressed early in the billing cycle.
Basically, the key to having a happy relationship with your cell phone carrier is to treat them like you’d want to be treated. If they made a mistake, the reps will be happy to help fix it (usually). If it WASN”T their mistake, though, (you had a 900 minute plan and used 1500), be prepared to have to accept the consequences of what you did. It’s really no one’s fault but your own. Dummy.
Your cell phone complaints are irrelevant!
