Verizon Wireless PDA /Blackberry ???
I need to upgrade my PDA, I’m not sure which one of these is good.
Any comments,reviews,experiences??>??? thanks
1.Verizon Wireless XV6900
2.Samsung Omnia™
3.HTC Touch Pro™
4.BlackBerry® Storm™ 9530 smartphone
Jamal, thanks for the info
isn’t the Palm Pre through Sprint?
1. XV6900 is a solid phone but not so much for Verizon, especially since its GPS functions are disabled and unlike other carriers it doesn’t have wifi, on top of that it’s soon to be discontinued as evidenced by the treo pro.
2. The Omnia is perhaps the most solid and has the best processor of any windows mobile phone for verizon. it has built in wifi, radio, memory, etc. this is your best bet. If windows mobile didn’t suck so much it would probably knock the iphone out.
3. The touch pro has a wonderful keyboard, interface, you name it, it is an HTC after all. This phone is also very solid, although if you want battery life this phone will die pretty quickly.
4. The blackberry storm is basically a good idea but it hasn’t been fulfilled to the tee. The only problem I can find with this is the buggy blackberry software and the lag that comes along with any full touch device.
If I were you I’d just hold out for the Palm Pre coming for spring, it’s touch screen is basically the iphones and from what Ive heard its a definite iphone killer. I’d also check out some of the Alltel phones since they are basically verizon now and they do have the Treo Pro. Also check out http://www.cnet.com for reviews on the phones your looking at. Hope I helped.

ATT to buy T-Mobile for $39 billion USD
Word came down late yesterday that ATT has completed negotiations with T-Mobile to purchase the latter for $39 billion dollars US. What does that mean for everyone concerned?
The big winner in the ATT buyout of T-Mobile is T-Mobile. Generally, it is anticipated that ATT will pay a huge premium for the Deutsche Telekom stock. Overseas, T-M does pretty well, given the huge amount of competition in Europe. Domestically, they’ve not done as well, even with their lower monthly pricing, due to their network not being built out as much as ATT, Verizon or Sprint.
ATT is mostly buying T-Mobile for their spectrum, and to a lesser extent, the customer base. This buyout will vault ATT back into the #1 spot in the US with approximately 130 million customers, far surpassing Verizon’s 94-95 million at #2. ATT will use the T-Mobile spectrum to alleviate network pressure in bigger cities like San Francisco and New York City, and make a true 4G network a reality nationwide.
The big loser in this ATT deal, assuming it passes regulatory scrutiny (a good bet that this was already thought of, since ATT has to pay T-Mobile a $3 billion USD ‘breakup fee’ if the deal fails to close), is the consumer. The loss of competition in the marketplace stifles innovation and won’t drive prices lower. However, given President Obama’s desire to push wireless broadband to 98% of Americans, this T-Mobile to ATT deal may well be a boon, providing a service where there was none before.
Generally speaking, this merger will almost certainly go through. ATT and T-Mobile probably did their due diligence work to make sure the regulatory questions would and could be settled as quickly as possible. ATT might be a ponderously large company, but it hasn’t survived more than 100 years by being stupid.

Does anyone know if AT&T Wireless offers ‘free mobile to any other mobile’ calling?
Verizon recently began offering free mobile to any other mobile calling, and Sprint has been offering it for years.
The short answer is yes – AT&T offers this sort of calling feature. It is free as long as you have the $20 unlimited messaging on at least at $39.99 450 minute calling plan, or the $30 unlimited family messaging plan on at least a 700 minute FamilyTalk plan.
How does unlimited mobile to any other mobile work?
As long as you have the appropriate messaging feature on the account, you can make and receive free calls from your AT&T cell phone to any other carrier’s cell phones, as long as the other phone is a domestic US phone number, and your cell phone is calling from within the United States.
What is the result of free mobile to any other mobile calling?
The end result is that your usage of standard calling minutes will decrease. Your anytime minutes will only be used when making calls to or from landline phones to your AT&T mobile phone.

what is the diffrence between wifi and broadband in a pda?
i am looking at the motorola q and it says it supports broadband but a review said that it doesnt have wifi.
WiFi means that the PDA is equipped with a capability of connecting to the wireless networks, for example WiFi routers commonly installed in homes or hotels, etc.
Using WiFi, you don’t user any minutes of data exchanges with the Cell Phone provided internet.
When the PDAs say that Broadband is available, they mean using the Cell Phone providers network you can use the internet to browse at high speeds. Most of the cell phones now a days have broadband EDGE or 3G connection available.
EDGE network is widely available with Cingular for example.
Similarly, Verizon and Sprint have their own version of high speed data transfers available for the cell phone users.
Coming back to WiFi enabled phones. I think they are better as you can use it to connect to your computer at home or work or any wifi network available for free.
This way you are not charged any data rate for browsing. You can browse for unlimited hours without having to pay a penny.
NOTE: ALL THE WiFi enabled phones also support the Broadband as well. I don’t know if any one does not.
So go with phone that has WiFi.
I’ve "Cingualar 8125" It is a great phone and has almost everthing that you can ask for.
Check it out at Cingular or google

Protest of T-Mobile Antennas in Windsor Hills/View Park
Windsor Hills/View Park Residents Support and Thank CVS Corporation and CVS Regional Manager, Earle Robinson. Shortly after this picket, Mr. Robinson went to bat for the residents, testifying against T-Mobile and the property owner, Alexander Haagen. After more than 1 1/2 years and 7 hearings, Windsor Hills/View Park Residents Prevailed. see:

Also see: http://www.cloutnow.org/ and sign or endorse the petition to bring back local control to regulate wireless facilities. CLOUT (Coalition for Local Oversight of Utility Technologies – http://www.cloutnow.org/) is a fast growing national coalition formed as a result of this tremendous backlash against the unchecked proliferation of wireless facilities now targeting residential areas and schools, as wireless companies seek to market new wireless services. (fyi: T-Mobile is currently the most aggressive because, unlike the largest wireless carriers -AT&T and Verizon-, they have no wired infrastructure/landlines to compete for market share of customers who buy bundled services. T-Mobile has also been heavily marketing wireless only households with their HotSpot At Home.)
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors also took action June 2nd, calling for Repeal of Federal Cell Tower Health Preemption. You can read their resolution at the www.cloutnow.org site in addition to the LA City School boards resolution regarding cell towers near schools that passed May 26th. Be sure to see letters of endorsements.
Residents across the country have been outraged over the disregard outside telecom companies have for local building and zoning codes, the deceptive and aggressive tactics used by wireless companies to force their way into residential areas, and the fact that many placements of cell towers and related wireless facilities turn out to be unnecessary to serve existing demand or provide public safety benefits. Elected officials should also be informed that 911 calls from cell phones are designed to be picked up by any available carrier as long as the cell phone making the call has a charged battery and even if the contract has expired for that phone. Arguing that more cell towers are needed to ensure 911 service is a red herring used by cell carriers throughout the country to justify their own business plans and marketing goals, while encouraging citizens to give up landlines and the loss of payphones which provide the most reliable public safety benefits. Smartphone/pda/blackberry-verizon customer???
When I go for my upgrade @ Verizon I’d like to get a phone that really fullfills my needs as SAHM: easy to use, slim, access to internet & email, texting, calendar, contacts… Don’t really care about camera, downloading, music-just want a phone that works well & can help me keep organized-what would be best for me since it’s so confusing? I’m thinking a smartphone would be ok-pda sounds more like to review documents(n/a for me)
Not sure if Verizon carries them or not, cuz I’m on AT&T, but sounds like a Blackberry Pearl might fit your bill. It’s slim, you can access the internet and email, and it has a great interface with Outlook to organize calendar and contact.
