Is there an iPhone virus risk? Where to get antivirus software for mobile?

Is the iPhone virus a problem?

I have Nokia 5230 model mobile; I wish to install an antivirus software for my mobile;
1)Which is the best mobile antivirus?
2) Is it good to use antivirus for mobile?
3) Where can I download it? What about an iPhone virus?

Generally for ‘feature’ phones like this (ie a non-smartphone type) you will never get a iPhone virus. The mobile space has been blessedly empty of this sort of threat. At one time Bluetooth was considered a way to deliver a virus payload to a phone, but this has so far proved impracticable. The bigger threat to phones today is malware delivered via downloaded application, such as through Apple’s iTunes App Store or the Android Market. A person with a modicum of dev ability could, if he so desired, craft a ‘free’ app that looks awesome and does some innocuous thing like act as, say, a flashlight… This app would operate exactly as described, but with one small, unnoticeable addition – a keylogger.

Most authorities do not believe that an iPhone virus will be a problem.

Any password you enter into your mobile phone would be uploaded to some remote website in a foreign country… and you know the rest. Generally, however, Apple’s developer/ application vetting process makes the probability of this happening very low, but in the future it could be a problem.

iPhone virus not much of a problem.

Which of the top smartphones for 2010 is right for me?

top smartphones for 2010

top smartphones for 2010

top smartphones for 2010

There were many new smartphones released in 2010, but most people are only interested in the top smartphones for 2010. Since the iPhone came out in 2007, the percentage of smartphones as part of total mobile devices has climbed to approximately 28%. You might say to yourself, hey, I’m a smart guy, I should have one too!

Well, there is a dizzying array of top smartphones for 2010 and operating systems out there. Here’s how you decide which one you need:

  1. If you’re not very computer savvy, and you’ve never had a smartphone before, get an iPhone. Of the top smartphones for 2010, this by far was the leader of the pack. It’s simple to use and pretty much everybody on the planet has one, so if you run into trouble the average teenager can be your salvation. Seriously. They’re reliable. True, the call quality sometimes sucks, and sometimes they do weird things but that is true of every smartphone and most other mobile devices besides.
  2. If you need one for work (or LOTS of email), look into a BlackBerry. The email system is robust and secure. Hell, the first BlackBerry device was really just a glorified two-way pager; it didn’t even make phone calls. It will do pretty much everything the iPhone will do, including Facebook, it works as a media player, and if you work in a sensitive job (defense contractor, government, etc.) the encryption system is the best out there.
  3. Do you hate Apple or are you pretty tech-savvy and you don’t like the lack of control you have over your iPhone? Look into an Android handset. Of the top smartphones of 2010, this operating system was closely trailing the iPhone in overall popularity. There are a lot of them out there (Motorola’s Droid handsets probably being most well-known), and they all have different features with regard to processor speed, on-board memory, physical keyboards versus touchscreen, et cetera. The one thing they have in common is the operating system. It’s open source, which means that anybody can modify and improve the OS. This is a good thing. You can modify it all day long, much more so than the iPhone.
  4. Microsoft recently released a new operating system, Windows Phone 7. It is far more stable than Windows Mobile 6.5 ever was, and in operation it tends to act more like a cross between an iPhone and an Android handset. Personally I’d wait six months or so until they iron out whatever bugs or glitches pop up
  5. Remember Palm? They made the Palm Pilot and the execrable Treo. HP bought them. Their smartphones still suck. They DO NOT make the list of top smartphones of 2010. Ignore them, unless you enjoy torturing yourself. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
  6. To be fair, Nokia sells smartphones that run Symbian, but they aren’t sold here in the US. You might be able to buy one off eBay, and you might even like it, but no one –NO ONE – around you will have one, and if it crashes and burns (which sometimes happens with electronic stuff) you are what is colloquially known as S.O.L.

Personally, I like Android. It doesn’t crash much, it does what I want. Then again, so does the iPhone. It really all boils down to the individual – what works great for me might be a horrible experience for the next person. So, the list of top smartphones for 2010 is a long and distinguished one, but it really boils down to pretty reliable handsets. With Verizon soon to be offering the iPhone 4, you now have more combinations than ever of handset/network options. Do your homework and choose wisely when considering any of the top smartphones for 2010; you will be stuck with this device for at least the next year.

Indonesia Bans New BlackBerry Imports

Indonesia’s telecommunication authorities are temporarily banning the import of new BlackBerry phone devices this week. The main issue at hand is the delayed opening of a phone service center in the island nation.
Indonesia’s telecommunication authorities are temporarily stopping the import of new BlackBerry models from July 16 until the manufacturing company, Research In Motion (RIM), sets up a local after-sales service center for the thousands of Indonesians who use the mobile phone device.

Indonesias Department of Communication and Information Technology says the Canadian device maker has not met a July 1 deadline to set up its wholly-owned center, which would be similar to another center in neighboring Singapore.

[Gatt Dewa Broto, Dept. of Comm. & Information Technology]:
First, we are still allowing the import of existing models that we have certified. Second, we have asked the company to provide after-sales services similar to the Singapore center so that we don’t need to send to Singapore if a unit is faulty. Third, we are banning imports, we are not certifying new products until they open a local center.

Indonesia has limited Internet presence and the BlackBerry wireless device is popular as it allows users to access the Internet, conduct online chats, write e-mails and other cyberspace activities.

The number of BlackBerry users has grown from 100,000 at the start of 2009 to about 400,000 by the end of June.

The government warned RIM to set up the after-sales center by July 16, but when RIM met with them on Tuesday (July 14), they said they need more time.

[Gatt Dewa Broto, Dept. of Comm. & Information Technology]:
“The company [RIM] promised us they will open their local office on August 21.”

Several Indonesian telecommunication companies provide the BlackBerry wireless service, including after-sales service for the devices. Among them is the dominant telecoms company Indosat, which has been aggressive in marketing the wireless service.

[Guntur Siboro, Chief of Marketing, Indosat]:
“As to the cooperation between RIM and Indosat, we are the provider of the BlackBerry service and we are now handling the after-sales service. The problem is that the government insists RIM must have an after-sales service in Indonesia. So it’s a problem between RIM and the government.”

The government’s move is supported by BlackBerry users.

[Adam, BlackBerry User]:
“I hope they will make it easier for us to get the device repaired if there is a fault. We will be happy to have an after-sales service here in Indonesia.”

Despite some 35 percent of the population of 230 million living below the poverty line, the world’s fourth most populous nation is a huge market for telecommunication devices, with many people changing their cellular phones annually.

Many shops sell the BlackBerry devices and accessories along with popular phone models by Nokia and Samsung.

Review: PROPORTA Universal Emergency Charger – Travel Kit

Proporta’s Universal Emergency Charger Travel Kit includes all you need to keep your iPod, mobile phone, smartphone, PDA, Sony Reader, Nintendo DS Lite, Sony PSP, digital camera etc.) charged and at the ready whilst on the move. This ridiculously handy product charges from any standard USB port and stores an impressive 2500mAH of power meaning that you can recharge your mobile gadget again and again (and again) wherever you are.

Features

- Charge anywhere, recharge anything – standard USB input and output
- Comes with a retractable cable which is compatible with the following inter-changeable connector heads: 1 x Nokia Slim, 1 x Sony Ericsson, 1 x iPod, 1 x Micro USB, 1 x Samsung, 1 x PSP.
- Power indicator LED shows when you’re low on juice
- Impressive 2500mAh storage (recharge your devices and gadgets several times)
- Powerful 5v, 800mA output (enough for even the most power-hungry mobile devices).

When it came down to actually charging, I tested it with Sony Ericcson k750i with 900mAh battery and I was able to get 2 and 3/4 charges from Proporta. As far as iPhone charging I managed to get 1 full charge and then I had problems with the device. So if you need battery for the iPhone it can get risky to use battery which doesn’t want to charge your device when you want. This is like a lottery, but any other device is charged properly with no problems at all.

Tested on; iPhone 3g [ firmware 2.2.1 jailbroken and unjeilbroken], Nokia N70 [ 2 charges ], Sony Ericsson k750i [2 and 3/4 of a charge], Toshiba Camileo HD PRO camcorder [2 charges ]

This device can double and sometimes triple your battery life which is great.

Product Link: http://twurl.nl/picy8k
Price: 56.95$

Rating: 8 out of 10

Pros: Beautiful design and color, High quality materials, Holds quite a lot of charge, it has a set of plugs for different devices and power plugs for different countries, you get additional dual car charger, 2500mAH capacity

Cons: I have only one but for iPhone guy’s very important. I had problems with charging my iPhone from this unit. Sometimes proporta was charging it and sometimes it didn’t.

Overall: Great product for almost any device which is powered via usb or is on the list of compatible devices.
