How to Tackle the Strategic Change in Business
Due to apparent complexity of the strategic changes business,
many good operational managers get paralyzed that is coupled
with everyday pressure of keeping the business running.
Strategic changes mainly occurs when a crucial activity in
favour of thrusting leadership and rigorous movement gets no
attention in a business. Then how will the operational managers
tackle the strategic changes in the business? How will they sky
high their business? How will they manage the dual roles of a
manager and a leader?
The answer is ‘adoptation’. Adopting new ways of thinking
in advance of new ways of working in a business. If the four
key skills of the operational managers are mastered,it will
help you to make those first tentative step towards the
Boardroom. There are four foundational skills which are useful
for your business to soar high. They are:-
Dual focus.
Involving communication.
Collaboration.
Professional effectiveness.
Dual focus:- Commonly heard complaint from the board member
as they review the next generation of talent in their
business is that,’they do not think strategically’. Focus
on the ’5Ws’like who, when, where, why, and what? when
encountering new issues, initiative or proposal.
Involving communications:- When asked the reasons of the
failure of the previous change project more than 90% cite
poor communication.Analysis reveals that most of the change
project has been accompanied by a communication plan but
problem continued. This was due to the propensity to look
inward and not outward when developing their plans.
Collaboration:- “stay close to your allies and even closer
to your enemies” is an important phrase followed by most
of the operational managers. In the context of business
managing strategic give a thought to anyone who has
something to lose in the process as your ‘enemy’, and
seek out ways for head start. This is not the act of
compromising but finding ways for both the party to win.
Treat your enemy with respect and anticipate their likely
responses to your strategy and create your plans to either
reduce the impact of their reactions or eliminate it
altogether. With the right strategic glasses on, your enemy
can become your window opportunity and potentially a long
term ally.Professionally effectiveness:-look around your
organization and particularly at Board level and ask
question as who is the best professional and why? Compare
yourself with the other professional and spot the areas
which need focusing and balancing this with more ego-
centric exercise with several question like what you want
out of life and what you are prepared to give ?
think collboration and how can you collaborate with your
organization to devise a role or a working framework that
meets your needs whilst making a valued contribution to
the business strategy.

Improve Your Business Results by Investing in Business Skills Training
How Do You Justify Investing in Business Skills Training During a Recession?
The answer is simple…you can’t afford not to.
During an economic downturn, companies look for opportunities to tighten their belts. Although I don’t want to admit to being a seasoned veteran, I have successfully managed teams through multiple down economies, and corporate right sizing, and I contend it is during these hard times that you need to gain competitive advantage by focusing on improving productivity and gaining optimum performance from every employee.
This is more important today than in years past due to the increased complexity of our business relationships, including working within global teams, dependence on a foray of communications tools, such as email, phone and video conferencing, and web enabled collaboration tools replacing more traditional face?to?face communication, and increased business competition given the global economy.
Communication in Business
Stating the obvious – all business depends on accurate and effective communication. Improving communication and communication skill sets in an organization can dramatically improve performance. Consider the benefit of running timely, effective business meetings that result in decisions being made, or that drive execution results. In contrast, think about the expense incurred by holding ineffective meetings by calculating the number of participants involved along with their collective salaries.
Business writing skills, including developing effective presentations and email etiquette, will assure your points are being communicated. For companies where intellectual property is core to business success – having the properly written documentation can protect company assets and decrease litigation potential.
Diversity Training
Diversity training is another way to drive organizational performance. Here in the Northeast, ethnic diversity is well accepted. But, we are not as aware of diversity in communications styles, or skilled in capitalizing on diversity of thought and ideas. The former can lead to misunderstandings or misinterpretation of the messenger’s intention. There have been numerous business articles written on the financial advantages of having teams that encompass diversity of thought. This is even more critical when working in virtual teams.
Leadership and Management Training
Improved management and leadership skills are critical in challenging times. It is important to retain high employee morale and productivity through coaching, mentoring, and performance improvement. Change Leadership, Managing Risks, and Effective Organizational Communications will all help contribute to continued organizational success.
