Question About BlackBerry Unlock Codes
How can I get a BlackBerry unlock code?
Earlier today, a question came up regarding how to acquire a BlackBerry unlock code. For those who have no idea what this is, whenever a phone comes from a domestic US carrier (and most overseas), it has what’s called a Master Subsidy Lock code built into it. This is to protect the carrier’s investment in the handset subsidy. Remember, they’ve likely sold you this phone at a discounted rate in exchange for your 1 or 2 year contract. This MSL ensures that the device can’t be used with another carrier’s system unless a particular BlackBerry unlock code is entered into the phone, thus allowing it to be used on another network.
So how do I get this BlackBerry unlock code?
Certain criteria have to be met, generally. If your phone is under contract, you can forget about getting this BlackBerry unlock code from the carrier. They want you to fulfill the remaining term of your contract, period. Some carriers have a policy of NEVER releasing this BlackBerry unlock code. AT&T will usually release a BlackBerry unlock code if you’ve had your device for a certain length of time and have a good payment history with them. The easiest way to get a BlackBerry unlock code from them is to call up customer service, ask for a Tier 2 rep, and POLITELY ask for the BlackBerry unlock code. If you’re not a dick to the rep, whose main goal in life is to get through a shift without a customer screaming at them for no apparent purpose, and build a little rapport (where are you from? Oh, I’ve been there…), you will 99% likely be rewarded with the BlackBerry unlock code you seek.
How else can I get a BlackBerry unlock code?
Certain websites are known to offer BlackBerry unlock codes for a price, usually between $10-20 USD. They’ve taken the time to figure out the algorithm to generate these BlackBerry unlock codes, which are unique to each IMEI or MEID. Sometimes even this route is not successful, as certain carriers don’t stick to the conventional BlackBerry unlock codes, and generate their own BlackBerry unlock codes, and keep them in this BlackBerry unlock codes database. In this case, you MUST go through the carrier, and if they won’t give you your BlackBerry unlock code, then you are what is colloquially known as shit-out-of-luck.

Smartphone/pda/blackberry-verizon customer???
When I go for my upgrade @ Verizon I’d like to get a phone that really fullfills my needs as SAHM: easy to use, slim, access to internet & email, texting, calendar, contacts… Don’t really care about camera, downloading, music-just want a phone that works well & can help me keep organized-what would be best for me since it’s so confusing? I’m thinking a smartphone would be ok-pda sounds more like to review documents(n/a for me)
Not sure if Verizon carries them or not, cuz I’m on AT&T, but sounds like a Blackberry Pearl might fit your bill. It’s slim, you can access the internet and email, and it has a great interface with Outlook to organize calendar and contact.

Can anyone help me decide which pda phone to buy?
Hello all,
I am not sure what phone to get, I just don’t want to make wrong mistake. I have read so many good and bad reviews about each PDA phone. I’m not sure if I should go for the palm centro, The blackjack 2, or the blackberry curve. What do you guys think? or maybe even the Iphone! but it doesn’t have all those software applications.
The best place to look is cnet.com they do extensive reviews and sometimes even video reviews of phones. They even have customer reviews. You should also go to the store and actually try the phones…you want to make sure you can deal with the key pad. I have a centro and love it, but the keypad is REALLY small and takes some getting used to.

New HP/Palm Phone – the Veer 4G
HP released their new WebOS device on May 15, 2011 – the Veer 4G
The Veer 4G is HP’s newest offering in the wireless space. It is a tiny thing, roughly 3 1/2 by 2 1/8 x 1/2 inches, weighing in at approximately 3.5 ounces, right around the size of a credit card. It incorporates a slide out QWERTY keypad, although the buttons are so small as to be practically unusable.
The Veer is a HSPA-class device – 4G!
At least according to AT&T’s marketing folks it is, anyway. The Veer has HSDPA and HSUPA speeds enabled natively right out of the box. Since most of AT&T’s network sites are enabled for this service, as soon as you boot the Veer, it will show H+ in the display, indicating the service is there. However, since enhanced-speed backhaul from the tower to the Internet backbone is necessary for true 4G service, and this is not yet available everywhere, you may not get true 4G service from the Veer just yet.
The Veer 4G runs WebOS 2.0
If you’ve used a Palm Pre or a Pixi in the past, the OS will seem instinctively familiar to you. The same slide-and-flick operation is available on the Veer as on the older devices. To me, it is an easy to use device, except for its diminutive size, although I wouldn’t want a Veer as my primary web device. The application market available for the WebOS devices is severely lacking, trailing far behind even BlackBerry AppWorld and Windows Phone Market, traditionally the back of the field as far as these things go. The Veer’s lack of expandable memory is also a dealbreaker for me.

A big bag of iPhone 4 fail.
The iPhone 4 fail…
I hear it often – the iPhone 4 is terrible, it does this, it doesn’t do this… It’s generally a statement on the part of users that isn’t well thought through. In the interest of full disclosure, I don’t like the iPhone. I don’t care for Apple products in general, although they do tend to be well engineered and do what they are advertised to do. Steve Jobs is a certifiable genius, no doubt. The man has taken Apple from a company being run out of Woz’s garage to the second largest company on the planet based on market capitalization. I think BlackBerry OS and Android phones are far better, just based on the open-source platform (Android) and the way they handle email (BB).
Honestly, I believe most of the perceived iPhone 4 fail is marketing. The iPhone is advertised as the go-anywhere, do-anything product of the millennia… And it really isn’t. People that have never had or used a PDA before buy the iPhone in huge numbers, yet they haven’t a clue how to operate it properly or fix whatever issues might crop up.
In my opinion, plenty of people that HAVE iPhones don’t really need them. These people set themselves up for iPhone 4 fail by giving in to their base need to conform. They need what is referred to in the wireless industry as a quick-messaging phone, like Verizon’s Pantech Jest, or AT&T’s LG Neon 2. These aren’t true smartphones; they don’t require a smartphone data package. The drawback to these phones is that there aren’t a lot of apps for these devices, although most of them come with Facebook preloaded, which is generally the first app that people download from Apple’s App Store. The data plans associated with these phones tend to be less expensive than the $25-30 data plans required for the more-powerful phones like the Motorola Droid line, the iPhone 4, the Blackberry line and so on. These quick-messaging phones are more of a hybrid between the older ‘flip’ phones that were popular just a few years ago, and the higher-end devices that are most prevalent today.
There will be a time – likely within the next couple of years – where the only thing available will be a virtual computer/phone/social device much like the iPhone 4 and Android phones are becoming today. People are going to have to get with the program and start learning how to use these things because eventually, these are going to be all that’s available. Preventing iPhone 4 fail is easy, if you work at it. iPhone 4 fail
Educate yourselves. Quit being stupid. The guys at the Genius Bar are tired of helping your sorry asses. The guys at the AT&T store ? I can assure you, once you have purchased a phone from them, once you walk out the door, unless you have a billing problem or need a new accessory, you are dead to them. Your precious Angry Birds app makes your iPhone 4 fail crash? Call Apple. Better hope you bought AppleCare, or you’re coughing up $29 for a service call (past 90 days, anyway).
Truly, the source of 95% of the iPhone 4 fail is in the hands of the user. Don’t buy a phone if you are not going to spend at least SOME time learning how it works, or you will be setting yourself up for 24 months of disappointment.
iPhone 4 fail sucks bollocks.

Which of the top smartphones for 2010 is right for me?
top smartphones for 2010
There were many new smartphones released in 2010, but most people are only interested in the top smartphones for 2010. Since the iPhone came out in 2007, the percentage of smartphones as part of total mobile devices has climbed to approximately 28%. You might say to yourself, hey, I’m a smart guy, I should have one too!
Well, there is a dizzying array of top smartphones for 2010 and operating systems out there. Here’s how you decide which one you need:
- If you’re not very computer savvy, and you’ve never had a smartphone before, get an iPhone. Of the top smartphones for 2010, this by far was the leader of the pack. It’s simple to use and pretty much everybody on the planet has one, so if you run into trouble the average teenager can be your salvation. Seriously. They’re reliable. True, the call quality sometimes sucks, and sometimes they do weird things but that is true of every smartphone and most other mobile devices besides.
- If you need one for work (or LOTS of email), look into a BlackBerry. The email system is robust and secure. Hell, the first BlackBerry device was really just a glorified two-way pager; it didn’t even make phone calls. It will do pretty much everything the iPhone will do, including Facebook, it works as a media player, and if you work in a sensitive job (defense contractor, government, etc.) the encryption system is the best out there.
- Do you hate Apple or are you pretty tech-savvy and you don’t like the lack of control you have over your iPhone? Look into an Android handset. Of the top smartphones of 2010, this operating system was closely trailing the iPhone in overall popularity. There are a lot of them out there (Motorola’s Droid handsets probably being most well-known), and they all have different features with regard to processor speed, on-board memory, physical keyboards versus touchscreen, et cetera. The one thing they have in common is the operating system. It’s open source, which means that anybody can modify and improve the OS. This is a good thing. You can modify it all day long, much more so than the iPhone.
- Microsoft recently released a new operating system, Windows Phone 7. It is far more stable than Windows Mobile 6.5 ever was, and in operation it tends to act more like a cross between an iPhone and an Android handset. Personally I’d wait six months or so until they iron out whatever bugs or glitches pop up
- Remember Palm? They made the Palm Pilot and the execrable Treo. HP bought them. Their smartphones still suck. They DO NOT make the list of top smartphones of 2010. Ignore them, unless you enjoy torturing yourself. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
- To be fair, Nokia sells smartphones that run Symbian, but they aren’t sold here in the US. You might be able to buy one off eBay, and you might even like it, but no one –NO ONE – around you will have one, and if it crashes and burns (which sometimes happens with electronic stuff) you are what is colloquially known as S.O.L.
Personally, I like Android. It doesn’t crash much, it does what I want. Then again, so does the iPhone. It really all boils down to the individual – what works great for me might be a horrible experience for the next person. So, the list of top smartphones for 2010 is a long and distinguished one, but it really boils down to pretty reliable handsets. With Verizon soon to be offering the iPhone 4, you now have more combinations than ever of handset/network options. Do your homework and choose wisely when considering any of the top smartphones for 2010; you will be stuck with this device for at least the next year.
